The old way
A simple way to remember the lakes’ names was “HOMES” — Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior.
As of late–August 2026, “SHAME” may be an appropriate acronym:
- Superior
- Huron
- America (everyone else will still call it Ontario, BTW)
- Michigan
- Erie
See? Shame.
